the wind brings good things

This is the last piece I worked on for the March show at Blackfish. Left picture: before I wirebrushed and sprayed it with high gloss lacquer. Middle: after I painted it with oil paint and right, the 'back' part.

This is the only free standing piece of 12 that I'm planning to take to Blackfish tomorrow for the March show. Besides this one, 8 are oil paintings and 3 are small wall mounted, painted steel works. Some are in a photo album on Facebook.
I learned from this post that if I don't drag the images around, the links stay unbroken. A good idea to upload all the pics first before writing anything. Will try that next time.

What I'm currently working on in the basement. I must be in my horizontal stripes period. I have been videotaping this and the previous painting, but video, especially in high def sure eats up a humongous amount of harddrive space. It is so much quicker posting this here on the blog. Dimensions 44 x 39 inches, oil on wood and canvas.

I set up the digital camera to take the smallest picture size, so I don't have to scale down the pics in Photoshop before posting.

This was an old piece that at one time was all painted white, when I was in my white period. The attached vertical piece of wood with the hole was once the leg of a chair.

stripes are forever

My latest painting. It's 54 x 41 inches. I don't usually work this large. May add more stripes to it before I take it to Blackfish Sunday morning.

Close ups on the right and bottom right. I'm curious how this formats on the column with 1 medium and 2 small pictures.

You can actually drag the images up or down, but remain in place where you specified before uploading: on the left, middle or right. WARNING: the only problem with moving them around is you lose the link to the uploaded image.

Follow up on 'salon shaver' by H. Half the day is gone... gotta get down to the basement NOW! I had been working on a larger than usual piece. As of yesterday, I like this blog site better than my art site which feels static. Not much happens there.

Just for the record, my first show at Blackfish since I rejoined it in 2007. This was filmed by Jim Neidhardt, one of the Blackfish artists. There were two other (!!) videos from that show: one filmed primarily by H and the other of friends who showed up at the opening. The Jan '09 show is much clearer in HD.

I have yet to post a full-sized photo. Here is 'tortek' a recent painting not yet on my art site. Named after the musicians whose music I used for the video--Torley Wong and Tekatax. To watch the making of 'tortek' click here. 

Png vs jpg files...   The image below is a png file, not jpeg. The advantage of the latter type of file is the background can be transparent. You cannot do that with a jpeg. If the background of my blog were white, I would have used a jpeg file with a white background. Jpegs are usually much smaller files.

I have facebook, twitter and a couple days ago tumblr. So I guess a blog is the next step. I'm not sure exactly the reason for all this. I had an art site for a long time where I made hardly any changes. Maybe all these other stuff is where I can note down passing things, because before you can say whoa, they're gone. One thing that attracts me to blogging is the opportunity to improve on my writing--putting down thoughts on paper, or in this case a flat panel monitor, has always been a challenge. And it's so easy to create links, as well as edit a post. Two days later, I'm still revising this paragraph.
